It seems that more and more components of doing business are moving to online platforms. Everything from marketing to payroll can be completed digitally or online, and this usually has the benefit of being more cost effective to boot. Employee training and compliance programs are no exception. Here are four key benefits to moving your compliance and other employee-training programs online.
Sometimes the things employees learn during their initial training process are forgotten—the rules that were outlined get foggy or blur together. To account for this (or to prevent it altogether), the employer should offer periodic refreshers on certain topics and concepts.
Retraining employees can be time-consuming and costly, but putting the refreshers online will help keep costs down and make the information available to anyone at any time. Online training makes it quick and easy for employees to access refreshers and new information on an annual basis or as needed based on performance. Any time an employee is not abiding by your code of ethics, compliance guidelines, or standards of operation, all you need to do is request that they log in and review the training materials.
The training process can be a big roadblock when you’re trying to get a new batch of employees up to speed. This delay is not only frustrating for employers, but it’s also frustrating for the new employees who are eager to begin working. One of the best ways to eliminate this problem is moving your training and compliance materials to an online platform so the new employees can begin reviewing the materials the same day they are hired. Even better, new hires who’ve just given notice at their old jobs can complete some, if not all, training at night or over the weekend before stating their new job.
One of the most commonly overlooked qualities in a successful employee training program is its consistency. When all the coaching and supplemental materials are consistent with your company policies, culture, and methods of operation, your new hires will be better prepared to adjust and adapt. By moving your compliance and new-employee training programs online, you ensure that every employee receives the exact same information in the exact same way, every time. Consistency in training is key to avoiding workplace conflicts, errors in judgment, and operational deficiencies.
Another bonus that comes from moving your compliance training online is that you will be able to custom-tailor training and retraining sessions for employees, whether they’re new to your company or have been with you for 10 years. For example, if you recognize that a particular employee that’s been with you for five years is no longer operating within the bounds of your compliance standards in two areas, you can have him or her sit through the online modules pertaining to those exact compliance standards. This will save time and wasted payroll.
When your compliance training is available online, your employees will spend less time in training—and that’s a win-win for everyone.
