There are seemingly endless options when it comes to HR systems, so how do you know which one to choose? Take a look at some of the features listed below to get a grasp on what a good HR system has to offer.
What does your company need in an HR system? First, pick one that can handle your number of employees. If you employ less than twenty people, then the systems meant to handle thousands of workers are unnecessary for you. Different systems offer different options. If you know you don’t need something, save your resources and don’t get it.
If it isn’t easy to use – don’t use it! It would be counterintuitive if employees can’t access their HR system. It shouldn’t take a team of five to figure out how to access various features. If you stick with an easy-to-use system, your employees – and in turn, your customers – will thank you.
Within the system, employees should be able to view their work schedule, request time off, and make changes to their personal information. Since all of this data would be stored electronically, it would help minimize paper waste, open up your office space, and reduce organizational errors – leaving data more readily available.
Another desirable feature is being able to remotely access the system. Employees, understandably, like to be kept in the loop, and being able to access their information whenever and wherever is a plus.
An electronic payroll system can give the company better control of payroll information and processes, like deductions, time-keeping, and pay grade. Since employee data would be integrated with payroll data, this would help eliminate clutter and keep everyone more organized.
They can also help a company with payroll taxes! This would save time come tax season – especially for smaller companies. A study by the National Small Business Association found that almost half of small businesses spend more than 40 hours dealing with taxes on the federal level. That’s a whole work week!
A good employee should always aim to improve, right? Well, a good HR system allows an employee to track their performance and see where they need to develop their skills more. Managers can also use this information to provide constructive feedback and select proper training to help enhance their employees’ skill set!
Manually reporting on various aspects of a company can be very time consuming. But reports are necessary so you can know about your company’s turnover rate, salaries, benefits, and other data. Look for an HR system that takes out all the hard work for you by having template-based reporting as well as customizable reporting options. It should also have graphics of the data it’s reporting on.
If it isn’t easy to use, available on the go, or a good fit for your company, keep looking! A good HR system should not add to your stress level or work load. When looking for a system, keep these features in mind and a system perfect for your business will emerge.
