So often we hear others talk about building a work life balance. While this is nice and sounds reasonable to everyone, implementing it and making it a habit are not as easily done. When constant stress and financial pressure push people to earn as much as possible, they end up overworked. This often then creates serious issues for them in their personal lives. While we are pushed toward modes of constant production and increases in production, this is rarely always possible. Like with nearly anything in life, it’s all about moderation. Too much work can cause your personal life to suffer. On the other hand, a lack of focus on your work can cause the same type of issues which will eventually spill over into your personal life. Finding a balance that works for you is essential.

Work hard and do your job. Make sure you are accomplishing the necessary tasks and goals for the day, but also don’t run yourself ragged. Do what you can reasonably do. Challenge and push yourself some but don’t overdo it. You want to leave your job feeling satisfied with the quantity and quality of your work while still having the energy and drive to achieve your personal goals for the day as well.

The best way to achieve a reasonable work life balance is to set attainable but lofty goals for your day. These goals should include both work and personal tasks. Whether it be finishing a presentation, setting up a meeting, going to the gym, or getting done some shopping. Knowing what you need to get done and how to prioritize it makes achieving that balance significantly easier.

Our careers our meant to facilitate our lives. While they can be a place from which we derive our purpose, very few people can devote themselves solely to their career. If you have a career in which you can find both professional and personal fulfillment, then this is a bonus, but not always the case. A personal life is important and often what we work to build. Working without the ability to enjoy that outside life is somewhat pointless.

Life without a fulfilling or enjoyable career can be just as disappointing. Boredom and lack of purpose can easily overwhelm someone who does not have a career to devote themselves to. On top of that, you will likely find it impossible to support your basic needs without some form of job.
