Overview

The District licenses assisted living residences (ALRs) through DC Health under the Assisted Living Residence Regulatory Act (D.C. Code §44-101.01 et seq.) and 22-B DCMR Chapter 101\. Before hire, staff must hold an accepted credential or complete at least 40 hours of training under a plan approved by the Mayor. Within 7 days the residence trains them on its own procedures. After the first year, staff complete 12 hours of in-service training every year, including 4 hours on cognitive impairments. Administrators add 12 hours of dementia training each year.
